The first week at a new job or a new school may often be referred to as “Welcome Week”, “Orientation Week”, “Training Week”, etc. and all of those work just fine, however, the term I have come up with to describe what I have been up to this week is called “Sponge Week”! Stay with me, I will explain more below:
It all started on Monday morning when I began my position at Sundog as the new Project Manager Intern and I have been soaking up as much information as possible ever since – hence the sponge reference. My first day started out with a marathon of introductions to a whole heap of extremely friendly and welcoming people, followed up with some training on the computer systems, e-mail, and more. The real fun started on Day 2 when I was allowed to sit in on a few meetings with other Project Managers and was even assigned my first project!
For this project, I will be working with a few other Sundogger’s to further develop and improve our current touring program here at Sundog. The demand for tours of the Sundog offices is growing and the goal of this project is to develop a plan that will allow and accommodate for a larger number of tours in an effective and consistent way. I am really excited to get started on this project and look forward to learning more about Sundog and its culture, history, and success along the way.
As the week progressed, I had the opportunity to get to know more people around the office and was further introduced to the infamous Sundog culture – which is ah-mazing! As the Project Manager Intern, my favorite parts of this week have been when I’ve had the opportunity to watch the Project Managers work and to learn more about what exactly they do.
Needless to say, Sponge Week has been quite exhausting but it has also been one of the most exciting weeks of my life, I’ve met great people, learned more than I thought was possible in such a short amount of time, and have experienced a work culture unlike anything I’ve ever known before. I am so excited to be a part of the Sundog team and can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store for me!
A BIG thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome and for making my first week here at Sundog great!
