Just My Type

Week 3 (three!) has been filled with so many projects and meetings that I don’t even know where to begin.  Let’s start with re-stating the fact that I love it here and my experience as a Project Manager Intern so far has been nothing but positive – and enlightening and encouraging and so much more.

My workload really ramped up this week when I was finally granted access to create projects and tasks in the PSA as well as given editing permission to the all-powerful “Resource Priorities Spreadsheet”!  Finally having the technical capabilities to manage a project, make changes, book resources, and follow a project task by task through to completion is really exciting for me – I’m weird like that J.  Although, I’m still a little hesitant to actually make changes and book resources – because I’m fairly new and, let’s be honest, that spreadsheet is pretty intense – but it’s still exciting nonetheless.

Other than my newfound power over the Priorities Spreadsheet, I have spent a lot of my week being pulled into meetings left and right – also exciting (yeah, I’m weird like that too).  Most of the meetings I have been fortunate enough to sit in on so far have been internal and extremely informative.  I can’t express how much I enjoy seeing how differently all of the Project Managers work; yet how similar their styles really are, all at the same time.  After almost three weeks of observation, I can say with confidence that Project Managers are definitely a “type”.  They are the “type” that thrives off of organization, communication, ever-changing spreadsheets and schedules, and I haven’t even gotten to the amount of coffee required to make it all run smoothly.  And it turns out, they are just my type because I’m one of them too – and proud of it!

Personally, I feel that as I’m becoming more comfortable in my role as the Project Manager Intern, I think everyone else is becoming more comfortable with it too. This has not only led to more interactions with those of my “type” but also with many other friendly and intelligent Sundoggers.  It’s been a great three weeks so far and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the summer so stay tuned!
